Founded Flunk around new year 2000\/2001.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>JO BAKKE <\/strong>Guitars, bass and more.<br \/>Quit school to play rock&#8217;n&#8217;roll in the early nineties and stuck together with three friends who landed a deal with Sony Music Norway as Happy Campers in the mid-nineties. Jo released two house 12-inches on Guidance Recordings in 2002 with Antenna after returning to Oslo, working with former Happy Campers drummer Erik Ruud, now Flunk&#8217;s live drummer.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>ANJA \u00d8YEN VISTER <\/strong>Vocals.<br \/>Started off in girl bands, later recorded a cover of a Beatles song in the legendary Abbey Road Studios as guest vocalist in a Norwegian band in 2001. Anja more or less accidentally ended up doing vocals on the first Flunk track to be released &#8211; winter 2001. Anja finished her medicine studies in spring 2007.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>OLE KRISTIAN WETTEN <\/strong>Bass.<br \/>\nJoined Flunk in January 2013. Freelance musician who has played with many well known Norwegian acts. Has also released albums as OK Wetten.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>ERIK RUUD <\/strong>Drums.<br \/>\nHas been live drummer since the first gigs in 2002. He has also contributed on several albums.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>BAND HISTORY<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>NEW YEAR 2000\/2001:<\/strong> Sessions in Oslo with Ulf and Jo. Uncertain when the Flunk name materialised, but in the beginning it was meant to be an instrumental\/sampled vocal project with no particular ambition. And certainly no record deal.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2001:<\/strong> Signed for a track on a compilation on Beatservice Records, and the label manager Vidar Hanssen was so impressed that he soon signed the &#8216;band&#8217; for an album.<br \/>Most of the debut album was recorded in early summer. Most tracks were laid out before singer Anja was involved, she came in and improvised and the songs were taken from there. Then Jo would add his layers of guitar. Still it would take almost a year until the album was completed and released.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2002:<\/strong> First Flunk release was a vinyl only 12&#8243;, Miss World. It was followed by a cover of New Order&#8217;s classic anthem, Blue Monday, in April. The track received a lot of attention in the UK, and has been used on a lot of compilations, TV series and movies, both in Europe and the US.<br \/>Debut album For Sleepyheads Only was released in late April. Great reviews in Norway. The band were invited to do a BBC recording session in London for Rob da Bank&#8217;s Radio 1 show The Blue Room, and made their UK live debut at the Notting Hill Art&#8217;s Club. Flunk also signed to Guidance Recordings in the US.<br \/>The debut album got raving reviews in some of the British electronica magazines (album of the month in DJ Mag). The band played Norway&#8217;s biggest rock festival in July. US version of For Sleepyheads Only released in October. The band went to London to play London Jazz Festival in November.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2003:<\/strong> For Sleepyheads Only still being released in various parts of the world. Special editions released in Russia and Greece. Beatservice Records released Treat Me Like You Do &#8211; For Sleepyheads Only Remixed in June. The band worked on the second proper album all year, and went to Paris (Hotel de Roubaix) to record in October.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2004:<\/strong> Morning Star album finished in March. Release in Norway in May, the rest of the world in June. First single On My Balcony was voted &#8216;summer single of the year&#8217; on Norway&#8217;s biggest commercial radio station. Miami based Kriztal Entertainment released a US version of the album in October.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2005: <\/strong>The track Play was featured on an episode of the popular US TV series The O.C. Flunk had several tracks on american TV shows and movies this year. An extended EP, Play America, was released in February.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2006:<\/strong> At last Flunk toured the US, a mini tour on the West Coast \u2013 including Seattle, the band&#8217;s (by far) strongest city in the world, San Francisco and Hotel Caf\u00e9 in Los Angeles. A live studio appearance at KEXP in Seattle was recorded, and later released as an EP in October. It included the first recording of the new live favourite, See You (a Depeche Mode cover). The band worked on the third proper album all year.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2007:<\/strong> Album finished in February. Finally titled Personal Stereo, it was released on Beatservice Records on April 23. A remix album, Democracy, in December &#8211; all tracks compiled from a remix competition on their website.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2008:<\/strong> Working on side projects before getting on with proper album #4 in the summer. Featured on a Saint Thomas (aka the late Thomas Hansen) tribute album released in October with a brand new studio recording of the track Last Word. Also put out a free download version of Silent Night in December.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2009:<\/strong> Flunk album number four finished in February. Titled This Is What You Get, it&#8217;s set for May release. First single Common Sense released in March.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2011:<\/strong> Toured China in the autumn, and started writing songs for a new studio album.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2012:<\/strong> Recording and mixing the studio album Lost Causes. Drummer Erik Ruud becomes fourth member of the band. Released a best of compilation, The Songs We Sing, in spring. First single from Lost Causes album, Queen Of The Underground, released in November.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2013:<\/strong> New album, Lost Causes, released April 22. Played the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas in March, toured China in May.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2014:<\/strong> Played festivals in Poland and Ukraine in the summer, St Petersburg in the fall. Released a live EP recorded in Prague (2013) and a Blue Monday remix EP, both in May.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2015:<\/strong> Started the year by playing another sold-out concert in Istanbul. Remix album Deconstruction Time Again released on May 25. Started writing and recording new album in March.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2016:<\/strong> Released new recording TMTTUOT and also a compilation of acoustic cover versions, Cover Ups \u2013 The Home Recordings.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2017\/18:<\/strong> Released the album Chemistry and Math, and touring in Europe. In December the band&#8217;s version of &#8216;Only You&#8217; appeared in the season finale of the US drama series &#8216;Designated Survivor&#8217;.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2019:<\/strong> Another China tour.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><<font color=\"white\"><strong>2020:<\/strong> Recording a new album. Played last concert before the pandemic in London in February. First track, Down Here\/Moon Above released in August.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2021:<\/strong> The album History of Everything Ever released in spring.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2022<\/strong>: Back playing live shows, in Poland, Istanbul and Oslo. Recording acoustic album (released in April 2023).<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2023:<\/strong> Releasing compilation (double LP) of primarily cover songs, &#8216;Cover Ups, vol. 1 &amp; 2&#8217;, on April 20.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2024:<\/strong> Recording new studio album. Announcing that the band will split after the album and a farewell tour in late spring 2025.<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"white\"><strong>2025:<\/strong> New album, Take Me Places, to be released on May 23.
